HPF COVID-19 Response
The Humanity Preservation Foundation (HPF) continues to operate amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Our ongoing online platform allows us to direct individuals in need of resources and/or provide materials for those having to deal with domestic violence, child abuse, or bullying situations. Now more than ever our efforts rise to an even greater critical need during this time period as it may be more of a challenge to locate available services and resources combined with feelings of isolation. A lot can happen in a year. Even more apparently can happen in a decade. HPF started the year off with a bang. We had the 2nd Annual Orange Tie Affair. We launched a web TV mini-series #HandsOff. Colorado Hotline Receives Record Number of Child Abuse Calls in 2018
Concerned Coloradans called the state’s Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline almost 222,000 times in 2018, according to a new report from the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS). December marked the end of the fourth year of the public awareness campaign, which is put on by the CDHS. The 24/7 hotline — 1-844-264-5437 — received a record of 221,969 calls in 2018, which is a 10,500 increase from 2017. Thanks to the people who made the calls, social services agencies investigated the safety of more than 57,042 children in 2018. Japan is Cracking Down On Child Abuse
Some public child consultation centers and police are stepping up efforts to share information about suspected child abuse cases after a series of serious cases occurred. The central government drew up a package of emergency measures on child abuse following the death of 5-year-old Yua Funato in Tokyo’s Meguro Ward in March, not long after she and her family moved to the capital from Kagawa Prefecture. The package calls for close information sharing between police and child consultation centers on suspected serious abuse, such as cases that have resulted in injury as well as possible neglect and sexual abuse cases. First Time Federal Gov Is Investigating Catholic Church Sexual Abuse Cases
The Department of Justice is not only investigating child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church in Pennsylvania, but also in Buffalo, New York. The U.S. attorney in Buffalo served a subpoena to the diocese, opening an investigation into whether diocesan clergy took children across state lines for sexual purposes, which would constitute child trafficking. That investigation, along with federal subpoenas served to seven Pennsylvania dioceses, marks the first time the federal government has investigated the Catholic Church for sexual abuse cases.
