The Humanity Preservation Foundation was honored to be able to present to the Barnegat Rotary Club at their weekly meeting on April 27, 2015. Both Development Associate, Zachary Weintraut and President Rhett Hackett presented to the group. The presentation was timely as it coincided with Child Abuse Awareness month. The presentation consisted of discussing the stats of children being sexually assaulted combined with the affects that both domestic violence and bullying have on children. The main message was that in order to protect our children we need to be able to educate them on the topic of abuse so that they know what to do should they find themselves in an unsafe situation. It is a powerful moment when you have a club such as the Rotary supporting your efforts and taking interest in what you do so that you can better the community!
Perelman School of Medicine Invites Rhett Hackett
For the 3rd year in a row, and also in coordination with C.H.O.P, I had the pleasure of giving a presentation to first year medical students at the Perelman School of Medicine (University of Pennsylvania) on the topic of child sexual abuse (CSA). Each year it is my favorite group to present to and I love working with the doctors that coordinate the lecture. Educating future medical professionals on this topic, discussing the long term effects of CSA, and providing the opportunity for an open forum of Q&A is what takes awareness to action items. It also helps prepare them in the event they are the first to be told an individuals history of abuse. Additionally, we were able to discuss the reporting process, child advocacy centers [like the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance] and how that all works. The greatest compliment came after the lecture when a student came to me and said ” they appreciate text book learning and lectures but nothing stays with them more then to hear personal stories and be able to ask questions to a real person”! A clear reminder of answering life’s calling and the power we all have to change lives! ~ Rhett Hackett – President/Co-Founder

Our Visit to the Small Business Expo in Philadelphia
The Humanity Preservation Foundation was excited to attend the Small Business Expo at the Philadelphia Convention Center on March 19, 2015. As it provided an opportunity for Zachary Weintraut to speak with small business owners from across the country in order to spark interest in these small businesses to support our organization and the work we do in supporting victims of abuse and prevention education. Of course it provided us a great opportunity to swap business cards with those small businesses and established communication lines for future partnerships.
Thank You Gloucester Township-Pine Hill Rotary
Humanity Preservation Foundation wishes to thank the Gloucester Township-Pine Hill Rotary Club for inviting us to attend their weekly meeting that took place at the Lamp Post Diner. We spoke on the topics such as child abuse (physical & sexual) bullying, and domestic violence and how it relates to our mission to not just help victims of child abuse to heal but the need to educate people to help prevent this horrible acts from happening. The presentation at the Rotary Club meeting were kicked off with a presentation by Zachary Weintraut, a Development Associate who coordinated with the Rotary Club to give our presentation to the group. Then Rhett Hackett providing statistical information as well as tactical approaches to preventing said acts from happening to children. The group was receptive and supportive of such a task and members were willing to assist in HPF’s efforts. Our organization was honored to attend the Gloucester Township-Pine Hill Rotary Pancake Breakfast that took place a local Applebee’s Restaurant in which other members and attendees learned of HPF’s services, programs and more. When asked to recap what he thought of HPF and the Rotary Club’s efforts Mr. Weintraut stated, “some of the greatest achievements in humanity have the simplest of starts beginning with the mere exchange of an idea, a grand idea”!

GCASE & COMA present County Wide Professional Development Day
What do you get when you fill a lecture hall with 180+ educators, child study teams, and special needs education teachers? Co-Founder Rhett Hackett’s favorite kind of people to speak to, TEACHERS! This type of audience is at the core of every community – the school system. Most children at some point will come into contact with the folks that attended the conference November 6th 2013. Rhett had the opportunity to speak to them and tell them the story of his journey – overcoming child sexual abuse – and demonstrating that it is possible to heal, thrive, and inspire. Most importantly, provide tools and information on what to watch out for or how to teach children to protect themselves. The message that HPF took from attending the conference is that an HPF presence is indeed a good thing. When it came to Q & A after Rhett speaking – the flood of questions was amazing! It shows that people have questions that they finally get to answer, and that as a group we can all gain a better understanding of these horrible acts that happen to children when we work together. HPF would like to thank the following people; Kim DiPinto, Richard Gaydos, (Gloucester County, and NJCAP) and Mike Deninger from Male Survivor who presented as well.
Seth Williams’ Inaugural Violence Prevention Workshop
On Saturday, October 19th HPF had the opportunity to attend Philadelphia District Attorney Seth William’s Inaugural Violence Prevention Workshop. The workshops covered a variety of topics including Domestic Abuse, Self-Defense Techniques and Identifying and Preventing Sexual Abuse. Did you know that 8,000 women were turned away from the only shelter for women? Rhett Hackett and Miss Vicki from the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance hosted two lectures. Included were tips to protect children and an opportunity for Q&A along with story sharing. It was clear that when given the opportunity people have questions they want to ask and learn how to best keep children safe from child predators. DA Seth Williams wants to make these workshop available every year and is committed to make it happen! So HPF and the Orange Heart will be there. Will you?
PCA Fall Open House
Last Thursday, the 26th, our co-founders Rhett Hackett and Charles Custer had the privilege of attending the Fall Open House for the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance (PCA). The visit comes with mixed feelings. One look and you can see that you are in a newly created facility! The fresh smell of new carpet and clean walls of new paint gives a feeling of crispness and as told, this is an expanded facility compared to their previous home on 15th Street. You can also see how they are now connected with the Special Victims Unit (SVU) of Philadelphia along with the Department of Human Services (DHS) in what is called “co-location”! Wait, co-location! Expanded space! This isn’t a joint venture of a shopping mall but a place where children will need to come when they have been victimized by sexual abuse! Co-location will now help to reduce the risk of re-victimizing the child by not having them have to be shifted from place to place. Instead, it is a one stop shop for children that have been victimized and allows the # 1 reason for such a place to exist and foster healing sooner! This new facility will allow PCA to see 100% of the cases involving children being sexually assaulted. As sad as it may be, what is comforting is that it is a child friendly facility that will be able to provide resources for victims and their families. Their effort – supports our effort! Expand – co-locate – because the efforts of many clearly defines making an investment in the future of humanity and that is an Orange Heart moment!
